Neuropsychological Consultation
Neuropsychological Consultation
Expert Clinical Guidance When a Full Evaluation Is Not What Is Needed
Not every clinical question requires a full neuropsychological evaluation. Sometimes the most helpful next step is having a neuropsychologist review existing information, provide perspective, and help clarify what the available information means.
Families may seek consultation when they have received a previous evaluation but still have questions about the findings, recommendations, or what steps to take next. A parent may understand the words in a report but still wonder how those results connect to everyday life at home, school, or work. A school team may need clinical input when a student’s learning, attention, behavior, or developmental profile is complex and additional guidance is needed to determine the right supports.
Physicians may request consultation when they want a neuropsychological perspective on a patient’s cognitive, behavioral, or functional concerns before deciding whether additional evaluation or medical follow-up is needed. Therapists and other professionals may also seek consultation when questions arise about how cognitive, developmental, emotional, or behavioral factors may be affecting an individual’s functioning.
In some situations, attorneys or other professionals may need focused expert input related to a specific clinical question rather than a comprehensive evaluation. Consultation can help clarify existing information, review records, discuss prior testing, or provide clinical perspective when a more targeted approach is appropriate.
At Coherence, neuropsychological consultation is provided by Jennifer Linton Reesman, PhD, ABPP and Dr. Korrie Allen, PsyD, ABSNP. Consultations are available for families, physicians, schools, therapists, attorneys, and other professionals who need help understanding complex clinical questions and determining appropriate next steps.
The purpose of consultation is to bring clarity to situations that feel uncertain and help people better understand the information available so they can make informed decisions moving forward.

Our Process
How Consultation Works
Consultations begin with a review of relevant records, reports, and background information to better understand the question being addressed. Depending on the situation, consultation may include discussion of concerns, review of prior testing, interpretation of existing findings, or guidance around possible next steps.
Sessions may be conducted in person at the Rockville office or through HIPAA-compliant telehealth when appropriate. Following the consultation, a written summary may be provided outlining clinical impressions, relevant considerations, and practical recommendations.
Neuropsychological consultation is designed to provide focused clinical guidance and is not a substitute for a comprehensive evaluation when more extensive assessment is needed. It is also not intended to replace emergency mental health or medical services.
When a more thorough evaluation would provide a clearer understanding of an individual’s strengths, challenges, or support needs, the Coherence team will help determine whether a full neuropsychological evaluation is the more appropriate next step.
To begin the process, please email us. We will guide you step by step, ensuring timely, personalized care and clear communication throughout the process.
Please note that contacting this practice does not establish a patient provider relationship.
Our Values
Consultation as a Starting Point
For some families and professionals, neuropsychological consultation is the appropriate first step before deciding whether a full evaluation is needed. A consultation can help clarify the main questions, review available information, and determine whether additional assessment would provide meaningful answers.
Families sometimes reach out unsure of what type of support they need or whether a previous evaluation fully addressed their concerns. A consultation can help organize those questions and provide direction. Referring professionals may also find consultation helpful when they want clinical perspective on a complex situation before moving forward with a more extensive evaluation.
At Coherence, neuropsychological consultation provides an opportunity to thoughtfully consider the right next step. Sometimes existing records and information are enough to answer the question. In other situations, a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation may be recommended to better understand an individual’s cognitive profile, learning needs, or functional concerns.
Beginning with consultation allows families and professionals to approach the process with a clearer understanding of what information is needed and why. When there is uncertainty about whether a full evaluation is the right fit, consultation can help provide guidance and direction.
